Spring has definitely arrived on the Fleurieu, and with it, new books, new faces, a flurry of fresh beginnings! 🌼
While our northern friends are lighting candles and sipping spiced lattes, here at Squirrel & Sparrow we’re celebrating sunshine, stories, and the kind of community magic that makes everything feel alive again.
🎃 Victor Harbor Halloween Market: A Spring Spectacle!
We had the most wonderful time at the Victor Harbor Artisan Market’s Halloween Twilight Event, surrounded by laughter, creative costumes, and the beautiful hum of community.
The energy was infectious - from families wandering the stalls in full spooky regalia to fellow book lovers stopping by to chat about dragons, romance, and the joy of indie storytelling. 🌸👻
A heartfelt thank you to Care Vaughan, the incredible VHAM manager, whose organisation and enthusiasm brought the whole night to life. Care’s dedication to supporting local makers and artists is truly inspiring, and it’s always a joy to be part of something so full of heart. 💫
📚 Indie Author Book Fair at Blackwood Library
Earlier in the month, we attended the Indie Author Book Fair, facilitated by Mostly Books, in partnership with Writers SA and Mitcham Library Service, with the assistance of Create SA - and what a lovely day it was!
We had the pleasure of meeting so many passionate South Australian authors, including the amazing author Lilliana Rose, whose beautiful books we have proudly added to our Squirrel & Sparrow shelves.
The event was a smaller, more intimate event, but rich in conversation and connection. It was wonderful to chat with up-and-coming indie authors from the Writers SA Self-Publishing Workshop, who had early access to the fair. Many came armed with brilliant questions about publishing, distribution, and getting their books onto indie bookstore shelves, and their enthusiasm reminded us how alive and vibrant the local writing scene truly is. ✍️💖
